Description

A UCLA student film. Oscar-winning dramatic short film based on the Robert W. Chambers story, "Pickets." It is about Civil War soldiers on two sides of a river who decide to call a cease-fire for a few hours -- creating a "time out of war."

Awards: 1954 Academy Award; First Prize, Venice Film Festival; Special Award, British Film Academy; Award of Merit, Edinburgh Film Festival; Intercollegiate Award, Screen Producers Guild; 1955 Richard Winnington Memorial Award -- presented each year to the film of the highest social and artistic integrity.

This film was nominated for an Oscar in 1954 and added by the Library of Congress to the National Film Registry in 2006.
