Shooting was never completed in 1950. Anger retrieved his unedited footage from the Cinematheque Franaise in 1970 and released a 16 min. version in 1971. A 7 min. version was released in 1979.

A fable of the unattainable (the moon) combining elements of Commedia dell'arte with Japanese myth. A lunar dream utilizing the classic pantomime figure of Pierrot in an encounter with the prankish, enchanted magic lantern.
